Elaine Law

Elaine Law, PharmD, BCPS, FCSHP earned her bachelor of science at University of California, Los Angeles and her doctor of pharmacy at University of California, San Francisco. She also completed a postgraduate year one residency at University of California, San Francisco. She joined the Pacific family in 2015.
Dr. Law enjoys seeing the evolution of Pacific students from their first day at clinical rotations through the end of their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) year. She is continually impressed by the drive, motivation, compassion and determination of Pacific students as they each face challenging situations on their academic journey. As a professor she shares her professional experiences and clinical expertise, which she developed during her post-graduate training at UCSF. It is her goal to find ways to challenge her students during their APPE by finding unique clinical opportunities. Dr. Law is passionate about facilitating opportunities to build leaders for the pharmacy practice profession. She believes the profession is rapidly evolving and as a result the role of clinical and dispensing pharmacists is changing.
Her primary clinical practice areas where she precepts experiential students are in internal medicine and ambulatory care pharmacy, specifically in anticoagulation clinic and primary care. Dr. Law also consults for Lexi-comp(R), an online clinical drug database and serves as the section editor for gastroenterology for published online modules through PharmacotherapyFirst(R). Dr. Law is also actively involved with state and national professional organizations serving on several committees to advance the practice of pharmacy, particularly focusing on professional development and mentoring students and new practitioner pharmacists. She is currently a member on a national advisory committee addressing precepting and teaching with the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). She previously served a 3 year elected term as a Board of Directors for the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists and has helped shaped policy development as a state Delegate to ASHP.

Teaching Philosophy
“My core teaching philosophy revolves around the Socratic Method. It is a style of teaching that helps me build a dialogue between myself and my students to ask questions to promote critical thinking in steps, using correct reasoning process leading to active learning and self-discovery when they reach an answer. I want students to be independent and take full ownership of all aspects of their patient’s care, to help develop and build professional confidence with the medical team and themselves.”
