Curriculum Vitae
Teaching Interests

My teaching centers the voices and experiences of students. I prioritize interactive, discussion-based learning whenever possible, teaching concepts through collaborative work. I believe in engaging, energetic teaching strategies that bring communication and rhetoric to life.

I also believe that students are capable adults who deserve respect, trust, and empathy. I am firm in my commitment to student health - both physical and mental - and I work to make my classrooms healthy and comfortable learning environments. I want students to feel like we're all in this together, because we are.

Research Focus

My research explores the ever-changing relationships between humans and technologies, asking how new media shape communication in unexpected ways. I'm always careful to remember, though, that there's less "new" about media than people often think. Drawing on the historical development of rhetoric, from ancient Greece to today, I use my research to understand how digital technologies shape us and how we shape digital technologies.
