I believe in the power of education to change lives and communities for the better. Education changed my life, and it opened the world to me and helped me to develop a better sense of my identity within it. I earned an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree, Phi Theta Kappa, in General Studies from Saddleback College, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, Phi Beta Kappa, in Political Science with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, with highest honors and highest distinction, a Master of Advanced Study (M.A.S.) degree, Alpha Phi Sigma, in Criminology, Law & Society from the University of California, Irvine, and a Master of Public Policy and Management (M.P.P.M.) degree, Phi Kappa Phi, from the University of Southern California. I also earned a Clarendon Scholarship and studied for several years at the University of Oxford's Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, where my research focused on the formulation and implementation of law and public policy. I also graduated Order of the Coif with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, Environmental Law Certificate, and Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Real Estate from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
