Teaching Philosophy:
My teaching focuses on providing deep, engaging learning experiences that prepare students for success in exercise physiology and nutrition. Using the "4S" learning approach—Study, Sense, Search, and Solve—I help students connect theory to real-world applications, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
I emphasize problem-based learning and hands-on projects, such as dietary assessments and clinical case studies, to build students' practical skills and enhance their understanding. By tailoring my instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, I ensure they develop relevant skills for their future careers, whether in health, sports, or research.
I also integrate technology and experiential learning, designing lab-based projects like VO2max testing and nutrition assessments to provide students with valuable hands-on experience. My goal is to create a dynamic, engaging environment that encourages curiosity and prepares students to tackle real-world challenges with confidence.

Research Summary:
I am enthusiastic about translating original research findings into exercise and nutrition interventions that can benefit the entire community by improving overall health, muscle health, and physical performance.
My research agenda focuses on the following areas: (1) investigating the bioavailability, health benefits, and molecular mechanisms of phytochemicals (e.g. oat Avenanthramides) in reducing muscle injury and inflammation induced by sports and exercise (e.g. eccentric exercise); (2) understanding the roles of oxidative stress and inflammation in disease development, and exploring how nutritional (e.g. extra virgin olive oil) and exercise interventions can prevent chronic conditions like obesity, insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, and sarcopenia; and (3) examining the role of nutrition and physical activity in improving muscle health and physical function in aging populations, as well as promoting health and wellness in college students during and after the pandemic.
