Join us for a screening and discussion as we explore the representations of immigrants, fugitives, and refugees in this collection of nuanced and singular independent films.
The Other Side of Hope (2017) won Aki Kaurismäki the Silver Bear for Best Director in Berlin, and deals with the ongoing global refugee crisis as two men, a failing restaurant owner and a Syrian refugee seeking asylum, look for a fresh start in Finland. Empathetic and comedic, The Other Side of Hope is sure to surprise you. (1hr 40 min, w/ subtitles)
Screenings for the series will take place from November 11th through November 16th at the Long Theatre. Part of the Media X Essentials Collection, curated by students!
