McGeorge law students who participate in McGeorge Legal Clinics and who exceed their required clinical hours by 25 hours are encouraged to register for the Melissa C. Brown Legal Clinic Honors award. The award recognizes students who dedicate significant pro bono time to meet the legal needs of their clients beyond experiential learning curriculum requirements.
At graduation, Legal Clinic Honors students will receive a certificate and special recognition in the commencement program.
The Legal Clinic Honors award is named in honor of Professor Melissa Brown. Professor Brown was the Director of the Legal Clinics at McGeorge Law School from 2011 through 2023. She is also the Director and Supervising Attorney of the Elder and Health Law Clinic and Professor of Lawyering Skills. Professor Brown has devoted her entire career to advocating for the rights of the elderly and the disabled. Beginning in college and throughout law school, she worked in legal aid programs. Later, as a practicing attorney, she continued to represent elder, injured and disabled clients and is recognized as a national expert in her field. She has shared her passion for providing zealous and compassionate legal representation to those most in need with students at the legal clinics since 2008.
Ready to be recognized? Register no later than January of your final year at McGeorge and log your public service hours by April 30 of your final year. You must be registered to receive the award. Any hours submitted after April 30 will not be counted.
