Karen Moran is a board certified music therapist at Napa State Hospital where she works with patients who have mental health disorders, on forensic commitments, or receiving end of life care. She received both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Music Therapy from University of the Pacific. Prior to beginning work at Napa State Hospital in 2002, Ms. Moran worked as a music therapist at Metropolitan State Hospital from 2000-2002. In addition, she provided music therapy services while at a private practice from 2005-2009.

Ms. Moran is a current member of the American Music Therapy Association. At the Western Region Chapter American Music Therapy Association conference she presented on "Song Writing and Performance in the Prison and Forensic Hospital Setting." She has also presented lectures on topics such as the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, Music Therapy in a Forensic Environment, and Music Therapy in Palliative Care.

As a clinician, Ms. Moran has a wide range of experience in the state hospital setting. Her responsibilities have included supervising music therapy interns, serving on various committees, addressing hospital needs and patient care, providing individual sessions for clients, participating on the interdisciplinary team, and participating in treatment planning. She has had to formulate treatment interventions to address goals such as developing community reintegration, anger management skills, stress reduction skills, symptoms awareness and management, communication skills, leisure skills, and developing personal insight.
