Professional Nursing Standards and Guidelines 

The curriculum utilizes external professional standards, including The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2008), The Essentials of Master's Education in Nursing (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2011),  Interprofessional Education Collaborative Expert Panel, Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (2011), and the California Board of Registered Nursing requirements (CCR 1426 ).

  • A state-of-the-art clinical skills and simulation center where students gain the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors to be “practice-ready” professional nurses
  • “Real life” learning in simulation scenarios using mid-and high fidelity mannikins
  • Clinical partnerships within the region to fulfill clinical hours required for licensure as a registered nurse (RN) by the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Inter-professional practice experiences with students in the various health science programs
  • A 225-hour clinical immersion experience with a nurse preceptor in the final trimester
  • Licensure preparation with practice exams throughout the program

"We're excited to welcome students to the Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELMSN) Program at the University of the Pacific. We have a contemporary curriculum based on best practices and have built a state-of-the-art learning and simulation laboratory. Additionally, the nursing department is joining nine other programs in the School of Health Science where students can learn with and from other healthcare professionals. This makes for a robust and dynamic learning environment where graduates can confidently enter the profession with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful professional nurses.

Nursing Admissions

Pacific’s Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing degree is uniquely designed for students who have a BA or BS in a non-nursing degree and have completed all required program prerequisites.

Curriculum

You will work with faculty experts to acquire the skills and knowledge in the Board of Registered Nursing content areas for licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and in graduate core courses. You will also engage with other health science faculty/students in inter-professional education activities.

Outcomes

Our graduates are well-positioned to become leaders and competent nurse clinicians who promote improved patient care outcomes through organizational and systematic change and participate in inter-professional practice with an evidence-based approach.

Abbott Fund Partnership

Pacific has partnered with the Abbott Fund to combat the diabetes crisis in Stockton. The Abbott Fund Scholars program was created to support aspiring health care professionals who will work with Stockton communities. Qualifying ELMSN students will receive a scholarship for at least 50% of tuition.

Regional Accreditation

University of the Pacific is fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). WSCUC reaffirmed Institutional Accreditation in June 2019. The next accreditation review is scheduled for 2027.


State Accreditation

The Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing Program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)

National Accreditation

The master’s degree program in nursing at University of the Pacific is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
