The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry recently hosted “5 on Fifth Celebration,” a special reception and open house held on Sept. 6 to mark the fifth anniversary of the opening of University of the Pacific’s state-of-the-art San Francisco campus, home to the Dugoni School of Dentistry and other university programs. 

Nearly 2,000 people enjoyed international food, wine tastings from leading California vineyards, student-led tours of the building, a photo booth and historical display, and had many opportunities to reconnect with alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends. A special champagne reception was also held to recognize the many donors who have participated in supporting the success of the school’s people, programs and facility. Numerous leaders from University of the Pacific and the Dugoni School were on hand to greet and mingle with guests. 

The event was held in conjunction with the American Dental Association FDI World Dental Congress, one of the largest healthcare conferences in the country, which brought more than 30,000 dental professionals and other healthcare leaders to the city. Taking place at the Moscone Center Sept. 4-8, the conference offered attendees a variety of continuing education courses, tours, exhibits and receptions. 

“Many of you were with us at the very beginning of our new building project and some of you were part of our ‘visioning’ sessions where we developed our wish list,” said Dean Nader A. Nadershahi during remarks to the guests. “We dreamed big back then and it has been exciting to have that dream come true. And while we are grateful to have a state-of-the-art home, it is the people and our values that continue to make the Dugoni School a special place. Our defining characteristic of humanism, our sense of family, and our commitment to leadership in the profession are all important aspects of our success in the past that will support an even brighter future. Thank you all for joining us for this special milestone.”

University of the Pacific’s San Francisco campus opened in 2014, when the dental school moved from the Pacific Heights neighborhood to the new campus location in the South of Market neighborhood. The facility also includes expanded education and clinical space that houses programs in audiology, music therapy and data sciences, in addition to the dental-related programs. 

The Dugoni School’s history in San Francisco goes back to 1896, when it was founded in the city as the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
