McGeorge student driven to be best legal advocate to protect others’ rights

Corina Johnson ’21 is determined to improve communities through legislation, and she is earning a JD with a capital lawyering concentration.

“As an African-American woman, many of the liberties I enjoy today had to be enforced through either legislation or the judicial system,” said Johnson, who chose McGeorge partly because of the Legislative and Public Policy Clinic, which gives students the opportunity to draft legislation and work with a member of the California state legislature to turn that bill into a law.

Johnson attends classes at night and works during the day at a private employment-defense firm. She also makes time to compete in McGeorge’s award-winning Moot Court program and is currently the chair of the Western Region of the National Black Law Students Association.

With these and other immersive experiences.

“I know I will leave law school with the practical experience necessary to excel in any legal career,” Johnson said. “I want to be the best legal advocate that I can possibly be.”
