McGeorge student helps coordinate COVID-19 resources in Yuba, Sutter counties

Curtis Vandermolen is finishing his JD studies at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, running a business consulting firm with his wife and taking time to help make sure medical equipment gets to front-line health care workers during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Vandermolen, 40, and his wife Emma Blackthorne run FSU Consulting in Yuba City. The firm specializes in strategic planning, structural analysis and disruptive conceptualization.

Vandermolen and Blackthorne work with businesses that have converted production to medical needs. They offered their services to help coordinate the flow of face shields and other equipment. 

“We work alongside with the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce and a lot of people that care about our community,” Vandermolen said. “There is a great collaborative effort to make sure health care professionals are safe.” 

Vandermolen spent most of his career in state government, working with the State Assembly and as deputy director of the California Transportation Commission. In recent years, he has juggled running the consulting business with his studies at McGeorge. Ultimately, he would like to run a law firm. His passions are Native American and environmental law.

“It had always been a dream of mine to go to law school,” he said. “It has worked out very well with the accelerated program, and I will be able to finish in December.”
