Parvati Iyer, assistant professor of diagnostic sciences, was selected to receive the national Charles Craig Teaching Award from the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU).

College of the Pacific

Camille Norton, professor of English, led a writing workshop at the Modesto Poetry Festival on Feb. 1. She also read from her 2019 collection of poems “A Folio for the Dark.” On Jan. 27, Norton was a featured reader at the Sacramento Poetry Center.

School of Heatlh Sciences

Robert E. Hanyak, interim director of the School of Health Sciences, serves on the California Speech Language Hearing Association board of directors as secretary/treasurer.

Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy

William K. Chan, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Medicinal Chemistry, received a $382,000 NIH R15 grant for the proposal “Investigating the molecular mechanisms in controlling the aryl hydrocarbon receptor protein levels.”

Rajul A. Patel, professor of pharmacy practice, received a $10,466 grant from the San Joaquin County Human Services Agency to support the Medicare Part D Outreach Clinics.

Center for Teaching and Learning

Leslie Bayers, associate director for the Center for Teaching and Learning, and Eileen Kogl Camfield, executive director of student academic support services, published "Mindful Assessment in Support of Student Learning" in The Journal of Contemplative Inquiry.

College of the Pacific

Qingwen Dong, professor of communication, along with communication colleagues Soumia Bardhan, Janet Colvin, Stephen Croucher and Moira O'Keeffe, published a book chapter on “Intercultural Communication: A 17-year Analysis of the State of the Discipline” in an edited book on Internationalizing the Communication Curriculum in an Age of Globalization.

School of Engineering and Computer Science

Said Shakerin, professor of mechanical engineering, published his short note on "Improved demo of granular flow" in the March issue of The Physics Teacher. The demonstration was part of a project supported by a 2018 Scholarly/Artistic Activity Grant.

Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy

Roshanak Rahimian, professor of physiology and pharmacology, along with Farjana Akther ’19, Rahatullah Razan ’21, and James L. Graham, Kimber Stanhope and Peter Havel with the University of California, Davis published the article “P716Role of EDRFs in aortic and mesenteric arterial function of the UC Davis Type 2 Diabetic Mellitus (UCD-T2DM) male rats” in the European Heart Journal.

Edward Rogan and Carly A. Ranson, assistant professors of pharmacy practice, and Rajul A. Patel, professor of pharmacy practice, along with Cynthia S. Valle-Oseguera ’12, Cynthia Lee ’19, Anthony Gumberg ’19, Basirh N. Nagin ’19, Wenwan Cao ’19, Eileen Wang ’19, Catherine Trinh ’19, Kevin Chan ’19, Navpreet Kaur Samra ’19 and Emily Hou ’19 published the article “Factors Associated with Medication Related Problems in an Ambulatory Medicare Population and the Case for Medication Therapy Management” in Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.

Ken Albala, professor of history, will appear in several episodes of the new History Channel program “Eating History” airing March 11.

Brian Klunk, associate professor of political science, co-presented a workshop called "Playing Games & Empowering Students: Reacting to the Past in Political Science" at the American Political Science Association's 2020 Teaching & Learning Conference held February in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy

Speech-language pathology faculty will present at the California Speech Language Hearing Association (CSHA) Convergence 2020 in March in Anaheim.

• Derek Isetti, assistant professor of speech-language pathology, will present “Effectiveness of Vocal Health Lectures Among At-Risk University Students” and “Visual Feedback in Voice Therapy for Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.”
• Michael Susca, associate professor of speech-language pathology, and Benjamin Reece, assistant professor of speech-language pathology, will present “Dial It Down Individualized Therapy.”
• Jeannene M. Ward-Lonergan, professor and department chair of speech-language pathology, and Deanna Davis ’19 will present “Co-speech Gesture as Meaning and Marking: Occurrence with Lexical Selection and Dysfluency.” Jeannene M. Ward-Lonergan along with Cara Tortorich ’19 also will present “Parent-Child Literacy Interactions of Deaf or Hard of Hearing and Hearing Preschoolers” at the California Speech Language during the CSHA convention.

Todd Davenport, program director and professor of physical therapy, along with Britanny Christensen ’20, Staci Stevens ’91, ’97, Mark VanNess, professor and co-chair of health, exercise and sport sciences, Jared Stevens ’13 and Christopher Snell of the Pacific Fatigue Lab presented “Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test Performance in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting in February in Denver.

Davenport, along with Elizabeth Snow ’19, Cody Davis Suder ’19, and Carl L. Fairburn III ’10, also presented “Thoracic Manipulation and Pulmonary Function: A Pilot Randomized Study in Non-Disabled Individuals.” Davenport also was a co-presented of “A CPG to Recognize Health Conditions That May Necessitate Referral.”

Robert Halliwell, professor of physiology and pharmacology, presented “Exploring Human Stem Cell-Derived Neurons for Neuropsychiatric Drug Discovery and Safety Testing” and “A Neuroscientist’s View of How to Maintain a Healthy Brain Without Really Trying” at the International Brain Research Organization, School of Neuroscience in June 2019 in Khouribga, Morocco.

Yvonne Mai, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, along with colleagues Yongna Wu, Rosemary Hernandez, Christie Stuhmer ’10, Philip Cheng, Kristy Johnston-Fields and Ken Choi ’20 presented the poster “Reducing Days of Antibiotic Therapy in Neonates” at the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists Seminar 2019 Conference in October 2019 in Anaheim.

Preeti Deshpande Oza, associate professor of physical therapy, along with Emma Wolfram ’20 and Michaela Stahl ’20, presented “Gender Gap in Exercise Research in Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease” at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting in February in Denver.

Tony Park, assistant clinical professor, and pharmacist Elizabeth Akhparyan Park will present “Pharmacy Operational Compliance” at the California Pharmacy Association's Western Pharmacy Exchange in April in Anaheim. Park along with Peter Gregorovic of the Principal of Gregorovic Law Group also will present “Pharmacy Ownership and Introduction of Would-Be Entrepreneurs” and Park will present “2020 New Law Update” with Anne Sodergren of the CA State Board of Pharmacy.
