College of the Pacific
Lara Killick, associate professor of health, exercise and sport sciences, received her Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health, with a specialization in health promotion, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). LSHTM is a leading center for research and postgraduate education in global public health. Killick intends to use her new skills, knowledge and network to build sustainable partnerships with local health organizations, develop exciting learning opportunities for Pacific students and Stockton youth, and contribute to ongoing community efforts to improve the health outcomes of our region.
Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Michael Susca, associate professor of speech-language pathology, received the Award for Continuing Education by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in recognition of exceptional commitment to continuing professional education. This is the 10th consecutive year that Susca has received this award.
College of the Pacific
Melissa Davies, assistant professor of health, exercise, and sport sciences, co-authored the article "The relationship between runner environmental paradigm and their motives to participate in an urban or rural marathon" published in the International Journal of Event and Festival Management.
Zachary Stahlschmidt, associate professor of biological sciences, and Katherine Nguyen '17, '20, co-authored the paper, "When to fight? Disentangling temperature and circadian effects on aggression and agonistic contests," which was accepted for publication in Animal Behaviour, the top peer-reviewed journal in the discipline. Nguyen is lead author and also presented preliminary findings for the project at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology in New Orleans and on campus at the 2017 Pacific Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference (PURCC).
Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry
Nejat Düzgüneş, professor of biomedical sciences, Jennifer Cheung, former research associate, and Krystyna Konopka, adjunct professor of biomedical sciences, co-authored the article "Non‐viral suicide gene therapy in cervical, oral and pharyngeal carcinoma cells with CMV‐ and EEV‐plasmids," in the Journal of Gene Medicine, vol. 20.

Courtney Lee, professor of lawyering skills, had her article, More than Just Collateral Damage: Pet Shootings by Police, published by the University of New Hampshire Law Review.
Michael Malloy, distinguished professor of law, had his 1989 article, "U.S. International Banking and Treasury's Foreign Assets Controls: Springing Traps for the Unwary" cited and quoted in D.R. Amariles & M.M. Winkler, "U.S. Economic Sanctions and the Corporate Compliance of Foreign Banks," published in The International Lawyer, vol. 51. Malloy's treatise "Banking Law and Regulation" is quoted in the "Brief for Plaintiff-Appellant Buchwald Capital Advisors LLC before the Sixth Circuit." In re: Greektown Holdings, LLC, 2018 WL 5806772, at *37 (6th Cir. Oct. 29, 2018).
Brian Slocum, professor of law, had his article, "Replacing the Flawed Chevron Standard," published in the William and Mary Law Review, vol. 60.
University Libraries
Mary Somerville, university librarian, co-authored the paper "Making Local Knowledge Visible: The case of the University for Business and Technology in Kosovo," which describes outcomes of a systems co-design initiative to make local knowledge visible, published in the open access online journal Systems Research and Behavioral Science by Wiley Online Library.
Presentations and artistic activity
College of the Pacific
Qingwen Dong, professor of communication, chaired a panel of prominent Chinese media research scholars on the panel "The Current State of Journalism and Communication Research in China" at the National Communication Association Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, Nov. 7–11. Dong also co-chaired the International Collaboration Task Force that is organizing next year's NCA summer conference in Shenzhen China, June 25–28, 2019.
Corey Stocco, assistant professor of psychology, presented an invited address, "Lying is Behavior We Can Change," at the Annual Meeting of the Nebraska Association for Behavior Analysis at the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
McGeorge School of Law
Jarrod Wong, professor of law and co-director of the Global Center for Business Development, co-chaired the 2018 Research Forum of the American Society of International Law (ASIL). Convened at UCLA Law Nov. 9–10, the forum featured works-in-progress on various areas of International law by over 70 authors and drew over 200 attendees from 18 different countries. Wong also moderated the conference keynote plenary panel on "Current Developments in International Trade." Franklin Gevurtz, distinguished professor of law, served as the expert discussant on a panel on "Competition Law and Agencies" at the forum.
Gladys L. Benerd School of Education
Thomas Nelson, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, Roger Coss '17, Toniesha Webb '22 and Daniel Diego '20, presented the concurrent session, "CCTE Reader on Social Justice: Pedagogical Considerations, Part II", at the Annual California Council on Teacher Education Conference in San Diego on Oct. 17. The session focused on the ways in which the reader (co-edited by Nelson) has been used in various doctoral level courses in the School of Education, including students' construction of their own readers based on their own research topics.

Pacific was well represented with at the 2018 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention, held Nov. 15–17, 2018 in Boston. A number of faculty and alumni participated and presented research:
- Larry Boles, graduate director and professor of speech-language pathology, and Adriana Joma '17 co-presented "Narrative Discourse with Aphasia Couples Therapy: Two Cases of Conduction Aphasia."
- Jill Duthie, associate professor of speech-language pathology, and Nicholaus Brock '11, '12, assistant clinical professor of speech-language pathology, were co-presenters of "Monitoring Treatment Progress: An Alternative to 90% Accurate."
- Michael Susca, associate professor of speech-language pathology, presented the poster "Time Pressure Effects on People Who Stutter."
- Jeannene M. Ward-Lonergan, professor and department chair of speech-language pathology, co-presented "Helping Adolescents with ASD Make Inferences About What Others Think in Conversation, Reading and Writing" at the 2018 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention, Nov. 15-17, in Boston.
- Ward-Lonergan co-presented "Read Between the Lines: Connect the Language-Literacy-Dyslexia Dots" and served on the 2018 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention Literacy Assessment and Intervention Program Committee.
School of International Studies
Daniel O'Neill, associate professor of political science, presented his recently published book, "Dividing ASEAN and Conquering the South China Sea: China's Financial Power Projection," at Stanford University's Asia Pacific Research Center on Nov. 12.
