— Jeff Michael, Los Angeles Times, Dec. 5, 2019
Examples of how University of the Pacific was represented in the news media in recent days:
“Cronkite Students Spend Thanksgiving Dinner with Dean Callahan – One Last Time,” Cronkite.ASU.edu, Dec. 2, 2019: Over the years, Chris and Jean Callahan have invited into their home Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication students who were unable to make it to their own homes for Thanksgiving. “Jean and I just hated the idea that our out-of-state freshmen who couldn’t get home for the holiday would spend Thanksgiving in a mostly empty Taylor Place,” Callahan told Cronkite.ASU.edu. “So we thought they would appreciate spending Thanksgiving with our family.” The story concluded: “Though this was the last ‘Thanksgiving with the Callahans’ at ASU, you can bet a slice of smoked turkey that students will be gathering next Thanksgiving in the President’s Residence at the University of the Pacific. ‘Most definitely, Jean and I are taking this tradition with us,’ Callahan said.”
University of the Pacific hosted the 2019 Men’s Collegiate Water Polo Championship tournament. The men’s water polo team ended up in the national championship match and ended up No. 2 in the nation. Here is some of the coverage leading up to that match:

Michael warned that the move could have unintended consequences for companies interested in investing in existing housing markets not yet threatened by wildfire. “It can make insurers even more reluctant to insure those areas if they could have a moratorium imposed,” he said.
“Teddy bears: A national scandal,” Pessimists Archive Podcast, Dec. 6, 2019: History’s Jennifer Helgren was interviewed for this podcast episode that covered the history of the teddy bear. In his authoritative review of international water disputes, Stephen C. McCaffrey, a water laureate and distinguished Professor of Law at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, remarked that major international water 'controversies were brought before the [ICJ], usually with good effect.' Other eminent scholars also stated that '[w]ater adjudication is a rich and old area' of international law.”

These are the jobs driving the region’s boom,” The Sacramento Bee, Dec. 5, 2019: Jeff Michael, executive director of Pacific’s Center for Business and Policy Research, was quoted in this story about the Sacramento region’s economy. The health care sector is contributing a larger share of the economy with a growing need for nurses, therapists, health care aides and other health care workers. “There’s a little bit of this, a little bit of that, there’s been growth spread around. It’s remarkably broad based,” Michael told The Bee. “There continues to be solid growth, solid incremental growth — I think that’s a good outcome. … The big change in the past decade has been health care and health care-related industries.”
