“Pacific names ‘truly visionary’ president,” The Record, Nov. 22, 2019: Chris Callahan, Board of Regents Chair Kevin Huber, and professors Rick Hutley and James Hetrick were quoted in The Record’s front-page story announcing that Callahan had been named Pacific’s next president. “Innovation is central to the success of higher education in general in America,” Callahan told The Record. “Honestly, traditionally, higher education, most universities have been very change resistant. They’ve been slow and we’re in an era now where slow is not going to work. … Some people say we want to be collaborative and therefore you can’t move quickly, you can’t be nimble. “Karma Full Circle,” KOVR, Nov. 20, 2019: Nancy Elium was interviewed for this story about a Reach for a Stars Academy student who found a $100 bill he then turned in to her. No one claimed the money so he was surprised with the bill last week. KPIX in San Francisco picked up the story and “Good Say Sacramento” posted it on its website. The story has been picked up by news outlets across the country, including Clarksburg, West Virginia; South Bend, Indiana; Davenport, Iowa; Maryland, Louisiana and Philadelphia.

“Project CommUNITY: Civility in Politics,” KCRA3 (NBC, Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto), Nov. 16, 2019: Political science’s Keith Smith was interviewed for this 30-minute special on the upcoming election. “A lot of people point to Pete Wilson and his anti-immigrant stances in the 1990s as kind of pushing people away from the Republican Party and into the Democratic Party,” Smith told KCRA in explaining how California turned from a red state to a blue state. He appears at about 2:35.

“Tigers host thousands of kids for fifth annual Education Day,” The Record, Nov. 22, 2019: Athletic Director Janet Lucas was quoted in this story about Athletics’ Education Day. “We’re honored to host this event, not only for our campus, but most importantly for our community,” Lucas told The Record. “To reach out to Stockton Unified (School District) and Lincoln Unified and some schools in Lodi who participated, we can connect with them in a variety of ways.”

“California High Court Strikes Down Candidate Tax Return Law,” Courthouse News, Nov. 21, 2019: McGeorge’s Leslie Gielow Jacobs commented in this story about the California Supreme Court blocking a new state law that would have required presidential candidates to release tax returns to California voters before the March primary. On whether the state should fight the order, Jacobs told Courthouse News, “California has to figure out whether it should spend California taxpayer dollars arguing for a law that’s not possibly going to work in California. If I were making that judgment, I would spend my resources elsewhere.”
 
“Local Roundup: Pacific men’s water polo’s Luke Pavillard named GCC Player of the Year,” The Record, Nov. 21, 2019: Student-athlete Luke Pavillard was named the GCC Player of the Year for the third straight season and Jeremie Cote was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year.
