In May, the third annual InSight Asia-Pacific Research Symposium was held in Nanjing, China. Seven students from Pacific's Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences Program (PCSP) were selected to participate and present their research.

Organized by student chapters of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), the InSight Asia-Pacific Research Symposium is a collaboration between University of the Pacific; China Pharmaceutical University (CPU); University of California, San Francisco; and Nanjing Medical University.

PCSP students Yingbo Huang '19, Melina Huey '19, Ryan Murray '21, Taylor Rabara '19, Jensen-Marie Spear '21, Carim Van Beek '20 and Su Yeo '19 reflected on their experience in China.

In the two days during which the AAPS InSight Symposium took place, we were not only given the opportunity to present and discuss our own research topics at the symposium but were also able to listen to seminars given by graduate students and faculty members from partner institutions. There were many interesting and innovative topics discussed during the seminars. Topics ranged from the re-evaluation of pharmacokinetic data in research literature to novel methods of pain detection and diagnosis, as well as 3D printing methods for designer and personalized medicines.

Aside from the research talks and the symposium itself, the CPU students and faculty were extremely accommodating for our group and ensured that we were taken care of for the duration of our stay. We really enjoyed getting to know several of them over the three days we spent in Nanjing. We were able to see part of the campus, including some of their laboratories, as well as the pharmaceutical museum.

Also noteworthy was the trip we took to the Sanhome Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Nanjing. Touring Sanhome Pharmaceutical and being able to see the development of their new research department was an incredible experience. Our guide took us to each level of the facility. We also went on an interactive tour that gave in-depth history of the company.

On our final day in Nanjing, the CPU students accompanied us to the Nanjing Museum and the Nanjing Confucius Temple. We enjoyed an amazing last lunch together as a group. We then explored the street markets before returning to Shanghai for our flights home.

As we reflect on our time in China, we feel very lucky to have been given this opportunity. We were able to meet several incredible people that we otherwise would not have had a chance to and were able to grow professionally, as well as culturally.

We would also like to thank China Pharmaceutical University for ensuring that we had a memorable and enjoyable experience during our stay.

We are honored to have been selected to present our research and represent University of the Pacific. It is something that we will never forget!
