Savannah Robinson ’20 scoured the internet looking for helpful Spanish language information on COVID-19. She did not find much, so the Spanish major wants to rectify the issue.

The senior from Stockton is working with Martin Camps, a professor in University of the Pacific’s Department of Modern Languages and Literature, to translate COVID-19 news and helpful tips from English to Spanish. Robinson also hopes to make a video to help others.

“My passion is about health care, and I just could not find as much helpful information in Spanish as there should be,” Robinson said. “I am pleased to be working with Dr. Camps to try to make a difference.”

She plans to create Spanish language resources in her final term before graduation. Robinson’s passion for helping others has taken her far. She spent three weeks in Peru during winter break working on health care initiatives and helping Peruvians with checks on blood pressure, body mass and other health indicators. 

“It was such an incredible experience, and I learned so much,” Robinson said. “I took Dr. Camps’ Spanish for the Health Profession class and the combination of the class and the trip have really opened my eyes to potential that is out there.”

Dr. Traci Roberts-Camps, professor of Latin American literature and film and chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, said, “There are a lot of opportunities, like the one Savannah had, that open up to our language students to do research with their professors.”
