Severance benefit information for involuntary separation
The Board of Regents approved a severance program to assist employees who will be laid off as part of the FY20 budget reallocation process. This severance benefit is more generous and comprehensive than the university policy offers for involuntary separations.
Non-exempt staff members will receive formal notification of their impending layoff on March 26, 2019. They will receive two weeks' of pay as part of the severance package for each completed year of service up to a maximum of 24 weeks of pay (normally 14 weeks) in exchange for execution of a severance agreement, including a general release from all claims related to the university. (Note that this provision does not pertain to grant- or contract-funded positions).
Exempt staff members will receive formal notice on March 26, 2019. They will receive one month's severance for each completed year of service up to a maximum of six months (normally three months) in exchange for execution of a severance agreement, including a general release from all claims related to the university. (Note that this provision does not pertain to grant- or contract-funded positions.)
Any laid-off staff member (in good standing) will be given first consideration for rehire in all positions for which they are qualified across the university for a period of one year from the date of layoff.
In addition, Pacific will provide assistance with resume writing, job coaching, job search tools, interview techniques and more, offered through Careerminds. The offices of Human Resources, the Ombudsperson and the Employee Assistance Program are also available for support.
University administration has made every effort throughout the budget reallocation process to avoid lay-offs wherever possible. As announced in recent budget forums, out of 127 positions that will be eliminated, 31 will require lay-offs. The university is working to ease the impact of the layoffs on those affected.
