University of the Pacific’s men’s soccer team is wrapping up the 2021 season with big honors for several of its players.

After the team’s best West Coast Conference finish since 2018 (overall 9-5-2, conference 4-1-2), the conference has named six of Pacific’s players to All-WCC teams.

Leading the way for the Tigers is one of its newest players. Erik Centeno ’25 was named the WCC Freshman of the Year. He was also named to the All-WCC First Team and All-WCC Freshman Team.

The first-year player led the Tigers in points, tied for the team lead in goals, and was tied for second in assists. He was also WCC Co-offensive Player of the Week after his two-goal, one-assist game in a win over San Francisco.

“What a first year for Centeno!” said Head Coach Adam Reeves. “He was recruited as a right back, but from our first scrimmage against UC Santa Barbara it was evident how dynamic he is going forward. As the season went on, he was able to get more comfortable in the method and find different spots on the field to be dangerous, which led to individual and team success. He has a bright, bright future.”

Joining Centeno on the All-WCC First Team are Ryan Her ’22 and Yazid Omri ’22, offensive forces for the Tigers.

Her tied with Centeno for the team lead in goals and second in points. He was also a two-time WCC Offensive Player of the Week, including a 3-1 win over Gonzaga on Nov. 13.

Omri was third on the team with 12 points and led the team in shots on goal.

“Ryan, Yazid and Mo had to compete with each other every day in training for playing time, but also build relationships and an understanding of one another to be successful come game time,” said Reeves. “The competitiveness in training has obviously produced results on the weekend. I am happy for each of them, as they have worked extremely hard together to be very good in their roles.”

Charles Brewah ’22 was named to the All-WCC Second Team. A four-year starter for the Tigers, Brewah started in 60 games and played in 73 games during his career as a leader on the back line. He was second on the team in minutes played.

“I am very happy for CJ as I have felt he has been an underrated center back within our conference. If the postseason awards were evenly split positionally, he surely would have been a first team honoree,” Reeves said.

Eric Cotton ’22 and Mamoru Kamisasanuki ’22 were both named All-WCC Honorable Mentions, a first for both players.

Cotton started all but one game for the Tigers and made 57 saves over the course of the season, which was third in the WCC. Cotton also was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week after his shutout against Loyola Marymount.

Kamisasanuki was tied for second on the team in assists with five and was fifth on the team with seven points.

“Eric was about as consistent as you can ask for us in goal this year,” said Reeves. “Again, I feel the depth in that position really pushed him to be the best he can be. I look forward to watching him continue to develop over the coming months. Coach Lanoye deserves much of the credit as well for his investment and development of each of our four goalkeepers.”

“We, as a staff, are proud of all of our individual accomplishments, and they are well deserved. At the end of the day, these awards are the result of the success the team had throughout the conference season.”
