Student emergency fund donations eclipse $150,000

The generosity of Pacificans willing to help students dealing with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a significant milestone.

More than $150,000 raised through 594 donations will help University of the Pacific students in Stockton, San Francisco and Sacramento.

As of Friday, June 12, gifts totaling $153,486 have been raised for the emergency funds.

Many students are dealing with food insecurities. Donations to food pantries on the Stockton and Sacramento campuses have resulted in almost $20,000 in aid ($10,244 in Stockton and $9,661 for the McGeorge School of Law food pantry in Sacramento).

Other donation totals of note:

  • Pacific Student Emergency Fund: 156 gifts for $43,961;
  • McGeorge Student Emergency Fund: 42 gifts for $38,016;
  • Dugoni Student/Patient Emergency Fund: 63 gifts for $14,838.

“I wish I knew who I was speaking to directly so that I could express my sincere gratitude,” one student said. “Thank you very much for your support.”

Added another: “Thank you very much for your help. We really appreciate it, and this is going to help my family and me immensely and we appreciate everything you have done for us.”

The needs will continue and likely diversify heading into the fall. The Pacific Emergency Scholarship Fund will help offset the cost of tuition for students who are struggling financially.
