Staff member Valeria Donald was recently honored with the 11th annual Cavanaugh Distinguished Service Award during a ceremony held Dec. 5 at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.
An employee of the Dugoni School for the past decade, Donald is a dental/medical assistant in the Orofacial Disorders Clinic. She is also a past chair of the Dental Staff Advisory Council (DSAC) and a member of the Employee Volunteer Opportunities Committee (EVOC). In addition, Donald has participated in multiple dental school outreach programs.
"It is obvious Val cares about her coworkers, her community, the students and faculty," said a commenter on her nomination form for the award. "She is an exemplary team member and positive force at Pacific. Val gives unselfishly of her time and energy with great humility."
"Some days can be hard for Val, with so many responsibilities and so many personalities to deal with, yet she is always positive," said Dr. Andrew Young, director of the Orofacial Disorders Clinic. "Our patients are privileged to have Val take care of them."
The Cavanaugh Distinguished Service Award is funded by former University of the Pacific Vice President for Finance Patrick Cavanaugh and his wife Janita. It recognizes staff members from the Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco campuses for exceptional accomplishments, leadership, innovation and service to the university community. Dental school faculty and staff annually nominate colleagues who have contributed to the school's vision, mission and values. The winner of the award receives a check in the amount of $500, an award plaque and recognition in the Pacific Insider.
