University of the Pacific alumni are always welcomed to use the library and its resources.

Building Access

Alumni are welcome to use the library building. On days when the library is open after 6:00 p.m., only current Pacific students, faculty, and staff can enter the building after that time.

Research Help

Print Resources

Alumni have access to the entire library collection of over 234,000+ print books, and periodicals.  Pacific Alumni can borrow books using their University of the Pacific alumni card and a valid picture ID (driver's license state issued ID). Alumni cards can be obtained from the Vereschagin Alumni House or by emailing: pacificalumni@pacific.edu.

Loan Periods

  • Total Checkouts: 10 books at a time
  • Loan Period: 28 days for most books
  • Renewals: One 28-day renewal

The Cube

The Cube is a digital makerspace that provides access to an array of 3D technologies, including Virtual Reality head-mounted displays (HMDs), Virtual Reality capable computers and 3D modeling software, 360º cameras, and 3D printers.

Electronic Resources

Licensure agreements for many journal article databases permit searching within the library facility by Alumni. Please contact the library if you have specific questions about online resources. Popular open access databases include:

Biomed Central Journals — BioMed Central provides a collection of free, open access, mostly peer reviewed research articles from over 100 biomedical, medicine, health, biology and biotechnology related online journals. (Note: For a few journals, only the research content is free.)

California Digital Newspaper Collection — The California Digital Newspaper Collection contains over 1,500,000 pages of significant historical California newspapers published from 1846-present.

Calisphere — University of California — Calisphere provides free access to unique and historically important artifacts for research, teaching, and curious exploration. Including one million photographs, documents, letters, artwork, diaries, oral histories, films, advertisements, musical recordings, and more.

DOAJ — Directory of Open Access Journals

HathiTrust — HathiTrust is a partnership of academic & research institutions, offering a collection of millions of titles digitized from libraries around the world.

Hearth — HEARTH is a core electronic collection of books and journals in Home Economics and related disciplines

International Financial Statistics — IMF monitors member country policies as well as national, regional, and global economic and financial developments through a formal system known as surveillance.

Internet Archive — A non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites and more.

JSTOR open access ebooks — Thousands of titles are now available from publishers such as University of California Press, Cornell University Press, NYU Press, and University of Michigan Press. These open access books are freely available for anyone in the world to use.

Online Archive of California — Provides free public access to detailed descriptions of primary resource collections maintained by more than 200 contributing institutions including libraries, special collections, archives, historical societies, and museums throughout California and collections maintained by the 10 University of California (UC) campuses.

Open Textbook Library — The Open Textbook Library is supported by the Center for Open Education and the Open Textbook Network. These books can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost and have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality.

PEDro — PEDro is the Physiotherapy Evidence Database, a free database of over 41,000 randomized trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy.

PubMed Central — Repository of articles produced with the support of NIH research grants and made publically available within 12 months of publication. Note: Not all titles and articles are available in full text.

University of California Digital Library — The California Digital Library provides transformative digital library services, grounded in campus partnerships and extended through external collaborations that amplify the impact of the libraries, scholarship, and resources of the University of California.

Holt-Atherton Special Collections and Archives

The University Special Collections and Archives is open by appointment. This includes access to their manuscript, book and digital collections. Special Collections preserves, collects and provides access to collections with focus on California, American History and the University of the Pacific. 

Scholarly Commons

University of the Pacific Scholarly Commons includes online access to both published and unpublished works by the University of the Pacific community including journal articles, books, book chapters, theses, dissertations, reports, conference proceedings, teaching materials, data sets, university publications, and digital and multimedia collections. Contributions to this repository showcase the intellectual and creative output of University of the Pacific faculty, students and staff, ensuring long-term preservation and worldwide electronic accessibility.
